Last weekend, a selection of students from Y6 with a couple of superstar additions from Y5 played in the U11 Prep 4 Sport Hockey Challenge Cup. After arriving at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, we were treated to an expert coaching session by ex-England player Brett Garrard and a skills challenge before playing our first game of the tournament. Then, on Saturday evening, we were treated to a film night and a good nights sleep before playing our final 5 games on Sunday.
The standard of hockey displayed by all teams across the weekend was exceptionally high, with several schools in the process of preparing for national finals. NHP did a fantastic job of representing the school to the highest standard, being commented on by the organisers for their politeness and positivity throughout the two days. In addition to this, they were also named the most improved team in the final presentation as they ended the tournament with a glorious 4-1 victory against Broomwood Prep which won them the shield competition.
The whole team should be incredibly proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the weekend. They listened to all advice they were given, worked beautifully as a team and were supportive of each other during some of the more challenging moments.
It is impossible to choose a player of the tournament as they all gave their absolute best and shared some sensational moments on the pitch. However, a special mention has to go to India Curtin, who was identified by Brett as the most valued player from across all schools in the final award ceremony for how hard she had worked during both matches and training! A huge well done to the whole team – wear your medals with pride! Miss Kirby and Mr McCollin
