Discussion and debate are part of the questioning approach used to lead to independent discovery in the Geography Department. Role plays, photographs, DVDs and modelling are just some of the techniques and resources used to challenge pupils to learn for themselves. Reading and writing about people’s views of their lives as well as speculating about why things happened in the preparation of case studies brings contemporary context to the curriculum.
We aim to teach geography in a way which will influence pupils’ actions for the rest of their lives, encourage them to be deeply observant and to develop a critical understanding of big ideas like ‘sustainable development’ and ‘interdependence’.
